Emotions and Performance: A Quasi Natural Experiment from the FIFA World Cup

Emotions are intrinsic components of human behavior that have the capacity to affect how individuals perform in their daily activities. Much literature has explored topic using experimental data or, when sporting events, focusingon pre-competition triggers. This paper uses, granular, event-level from 2018 FIFA football World Cup study for first time observed and naturally induced emotions impact performance as measured by each player's passing ability. The quasi-natural set up is rich enough influence positive negative duration. finds harm between 3 9 minutes after trigger. At same time,there weak evidence also constrain performance, but only 6 8 trigger event.
